What inspired you to start the Low Insulin Lifestyle?
A new PCOS diagnosis caused me to start doing my own research. I knew the standard advice of “eat less and exercise more” wasn’t working, so I wanted to find a different approach. That’s when I found the Low Insulin Lifestyle.
What symptoms or challenges were you experiencing before starting?
Since I was in middle school, I have struggled with weight gain, extreme fatigue, and intense sugar cravings. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t lose weight, and I always felt drained.
What was your initial experience like during the first few days or weeks of starting the Low Insulin Lifestyle?
The first few days were the most difficult. I had headaches and felt sluggish, but I knew it was my body adjusting. After about a week, the withdrawal symptoms subsided, and I started to feel more in control of my hunger and cravings.
When did you start to notice changes in how you felt or improvements in your symptoms?
After about a week, the withdrawal symptoms subsided, and I felt so much better. I had more energy, my cravings weren’t controlling me anymore, and for the first time in years, I felt like I was in control of my body.
Did you face any challenges while starting or maintaining the Low Insulin Lifestyle? If so, what were they and how did you overcome them?
Through the holiday season, I had to have a survival plan. There were so many temptations, but I reminded myself why I started. I focused on making intentional choices rather than striving for perfection, and that helped me stay consistent.
What results or successes have you achieved since starting the Low Insulin Lifestyle?
I have so many positive changes it’s hard to remember them all! I have more energy, no more extreme sugar cravings, and I’ve lost weight without counting a single calorie. My periods have become regular for the first time in years, and I just feel better overall.
Are there any specific milestones or achievements you’re most proud of?
My thirty-pound weight loss is my biggest accomplishment. But more than that, I feel free. Food doesn’t control me anymore.
What tips or advice would you give to someone who is just starting the Low Insulin Lifestyle?
Commit yourself to the changes! The first few days are tough, but stick with it, and you’ll be shocked at how quickly your body starts responding. Don’t expect overnight results, but trust the process—it works.
What does a typical day look like for you on the Low Insulin Lifestyle?
Breakfast is typically mostly protein, such as eggs and avocado, or a protein shake with healthy fats. Lunch is something simple, like a salad with protein and olive oil dressing. Dinner is usually a protein with a big serving of non-starchy vegetables. I stay mindful of what I’m eating, but I don’t obsess over numbers anymore.
Would you like to share anything else about your experience?
I am so grateful for the work Dr. Ali has put into this. Learning about insulin resistance changed my life, and I hope more women find this lifestyle sooner so they don’t have to struggle for years like I did.
